A 2026 World Business Outlook article highlights the growing popularity of Employer of Record (EOR) services as businesses adopt tech-driven solutions for efficient, compliant, and scalable global hiring.

However, understanding pricing is crucial to avoid unexpected costs when choosing a global employment solution.

RemoFirst is a popular choice for managing global teams, offering accessible, competitive pricing and flexible plans. Yet, its pricing can be unpredictable, varying by location, required services, and regional regulations.

While RemoFirst advertises flat rates, such as $199 per month per person for EOR and $25 per month per person for contractors, users report inconsistencies, particularly with contracts and onboarding, compliance, and other add-on costs, lack of phone support, and lack of transparency when it comes to conversion rates. These variables can be challenging for small businesses and startups.

In this guide, we break down RemoFirst’s pricing and explore the true costs of hiring contractors, managing payroll, and using EOR services. Issues like regional variations and the need for country-specific quotes mean final costs often exceed initial estimates.

We’ll also compare RemoFirst with Rivermate, an employer of record solution known for its straightforward, transparent pricing. Rivermate’s EOR service starts at €299 per person per month, with no minimums, contracts, or hidden fees, making budgeting simpler. Rivermate’s highly rated, hands-on support further sets it apart, especially for companies requiring tailored assistance.

Their services include payroll management, benefits administration, compliance support, and optional add-ons like visa assistance and global health insurance.

While advertised rates start at $199 per person per month for its EOR solution, managing contractors is free; however, processing contractor payments incurs a fee of $25 per person per month. Actual costs for both employees and contractors can vary depending on local regulations, taxes, and statutory benefits.

To avoid unexpected expenses, we recommend requesting detailed, country-specific quotes to ensure the model aligns with your business’s growth and budgeting needs.

Pros and cons of RemoFirst’s pricing model

Pros	Cons
One of the most affordable EOR providers (source, source, source, source)	Slow time-to-offer: One Reddit user reported that for the two hires they made using RemoFirst, it took them nearly two weeks, and they've lost preferred candidates because of this delay. (source, source)
User-friendly platform (source)	Inefficient communication: A Reddit user mentioned they spent hours attempting to communicate simple contract revisions with staff. They revealed this lack of efficiency has been frustrating and time-consuming. (source)
Clear pricing structure: Pricing for contractors, payroll, and EOR services is broken down, offering transparency. (source)	Lack of phone support (source)
No hidden fees (source, source)	Platform updates slow: A G2 user reported one area of improvement would be the speed of platform updates and the addition of new country-specific features. Local regulations often evolve rapidly, and faster adaptation within the platform would enhance the overall experience. (source)
Incorrect salary calculations: A G2 user reported that their salary was miscalculated. They were paid as an hourly employee instead of a full-time salaried employee. Additionally, RemoFirst’s local partner deducted an amount from their salary without notifying the user, which seems to have violated local employment law. (source)

Why Rivermate is the better alternative to RemoFirst

When evaluating employer of record providers, it’s important to consider more than just the platform’s features. Rivermate offers several key advantages over the RemoFirst platform, especially if you value flexibility, hands-on support, and transparent pricing. Here’s why Rivermate might be the ideal choice for your business:

1. Transparent, flat-rate pricing

Caption: Rivermate pricing plans

One of the key differences between Rivermate and RemoFirst is the pricing structure. While RemoFirst offers EOR services at $199 per person per month, with additional charges for benefits, visa management, and compliance services, Rivermate keeps it simple with a flat-rate pricing model. This means you pay a fixed price per employee or contractor, with no hidden fees or surprises.

For companies with multiple hires in various countries, RemoFirst’s pricing can quickly add up, especially with the extra charges for benefits and visa management. Rivermate’s predictable pricing makes it easier to scale globally without the complexity of fluctuating costs.

2. Personalized onboarding for every employee

Onboarding is quick and typically completed in 48 hours or less. Every employee we hire or transfer for our clients then undergoes a personalized onboarding session.

This session isn’t just a basic introduction. It’s designed to ensure employees fully understand their role, the platform, and how Employer of Record (EOR) services function, something our competitors often overlook.

In the session, we cover:

• EOR overview: Clarifying the process and the roles of all parties involved
• Platform tour: A hands-on walkthrough of the Rivermate platform, highlighting essential features
• Feature demonstration: Showcasing key tools, such as how the reimbursement process works

This session is available for both new and existing clients’ employees. Our goal is to ensure that everyone hired through Rivermate feels well-informed, confident, and ready to collaborate with their global team from the start.

3. Human-first, personalized support

Rivermate is more than just a platform. It’s a true partner in global hiring. Unlike RemoFirst, which automates much of its service delivery and relies heavily on third-party providers, Rivermate offers dedicated, personalized support from day one.

With Rivermate, you have a dedicated Global Account Manager for each market, ensuring you always have access to a real person who understands your unique business needs and local legal requirements. You’ll also get real-time support via Slack, WhatsApp, or email—24/7/365.

4. Flexibility and customization

Rivermate is built to adapt to your business, not the other way around. Whether you need custom workflows, tailored payroll requirements, or flexible benefits plans, Rivermate provides the tools and flexibility to make it happen.

Why Rivermate is the clear choice for global expansion

Choosing the right global employment partner is a critical decision, particularly when managing complex legal, payroll, and compliance challenges. While RemoFirst offers flexibility in its pricing structure, its inconsistent processes, rigid workflows, and pay discrepancies can complicate global expansion more than necessary.

Issues like unexpected charges for benefits, visa management, and a lack of process flexibility can hinder growth and create unnecessary risk.

On the other hand, Rivermate’s transparent flat-rate pricing, human-led support, and customizable platform make it easier to scale confidently across borders, without the administrative burden.
